Cruise – Day 1 – Barbados!

At last! It feels like an age since we booked, but the time was nigh! On this day we’d either make Barbados by evening or be a plane wreck at the bottom of the Atlantic. Spoiler: We made it.

The hotel had breakfast included, but we had also booked into the lounge at the airport so we had a light pastry breakfast  before booking the shuttle bus to Terminal 2.

The airport wasn’t too busy and it wasn’t long before we were in the 1903 lounge. Cheers!

Had some breakfast and in hindsight we probably would have had a higher quality breakfast at the hotel.

At least the lounge one came with sweet, sweet booze. My favourite breakfast drink, Guinness, washed down with a Champagne chaser.

At around 1020 was time to head to the gate. Sweet mother of God that is a trek. Gate 204 appeared to be three days journey east from the lounge. Eventually we made it.

All boarded and off on schedule. I’ve never done a long haul flight and Emma hadn’t been on one in about 26 years when she went to Vegas baby.

Was a fair bit turbulence throughout looked lovely out there at 40000 feet though.

The in-flight meal was interesting. “Chicken Pie”

Was uneventful then with 2 hours to go…

Emma spews in the spew bag! All good you say? No. Splash! Bottom of the spew bag falls out.

Cleanup in aisle 3. Kudos to the TUI staff. Must be an awful part of the job.

Anyway enough fun. We got there. Was awesome straight off the plane and onto the coach to the port. No messing at the airport. Barbados looks lovely.

Took about 45 minutes to get to the port. The guy said that little has changed in 300 years. Looked great.

They have a really smooth check in process and we were through in no time.

Then there she was.

Once on board headed straight to the room. Of course we picked the longest route. Couldn’t find it. Had to ask.

Anyway.

The Balcony Room seems great. Last time we were in an internal room. The balcony is deffo a big plus.

Crapper works just fine too.

Nice to have these waiting on us.

Suitcases hadn’t arrived yet so we went for a wander around the ship.

Started with a wee beer in the summer house. (Emma was still not mentally recovered from the spewing, so she went for a full fat Coke.)

Then a wander around taking a few snaps. It’s lovely looking out in the dark from the ship at the lights.

We had some tea in The Kitchen. It’s kind of a new take on the classic all inclusive buffet. They have various places to choose from including The Gravy Boat, which does Sunday dinners. Also Greek,  Chinese, Indian and many more. I went for an Indian and Emma made an attempt at a pie and chips.

It was pretty good. Seems like high quality stuff.

Just as we finished the ship started to move! Sail away, underway!

We had a pretty quiet evening after that. Went back to the room and our cases were outside waiting on us. We took what felt like an age to unpack then grabbed a beer and chilled on the balcony watching the sea.

Cheers!
